Keep it Real: Don’t Turn it Into a Battle

There are numerous reasons why parents want to potty train their young toddlers, but those reasons probably mean nothing to the child. It can turn into a huge battle between frustrated parents and defiant toddlers. There is one quick, easy solution, do not let it become a fierce battle.

Every child learns at a different pace. Just because one child is potty trained at two and half does not mean another child will be. Parents can help relieve some of the frustration of potty training by allowing the child’s actions to determine when it is a good time to start the training process.

One key sign to watch for is when the child becomes aware of a soiled diaper. Some kids will immediately ask for a diaper change or may even take it off themselves. Ease into potty training by asking the child to sit on the new potty chair. Make potty training a positive, exciting event for the child.

There are numerous videos and books that delve into the potty training business on a kid level. Many children are frightened of the big, bad toilet and will need some encouragement before they can embark on this next stage of development.
